Frequently Asked Questions

Q. How do I start up a Neighbourhood Watch.
A. Contact your Neighbourhood Watch Liaison Officer on 020 8649 0318 or nhwcroydon@met.police.uk for further details, or you can speak to a member of your local Safer Neighbourhood Team.

Q. How long would I have to serve as a Co-ordinator of my Neighbourhood Watch?
A. You're under no obligation - serve for as long or as short a time as you wish. If you do decide to leave though, it helps if you can give your Neighbourhood Watch Liaison Officer a little notice, so they can fill the gap you will leave.

Q. How much does it cost to join.
A. Nothing. All Lamp post signs and window stickers are provided free of charge by the Croydon Borough Neighbourhood Watch Association.

Q. How much involvement is required?
A. Whatever time you have available, as you may work full time, part time or not at all. Once your Watch is set up, you can spend as little as an hour a month delivering the quarterly newsletters supplied by the CBNWA, or, if you have time, you can get involved in the Ward Panel meetings that are run by your Safer Neighbourhood Team, or set up your own regular neighbourhood meetings and get involved more with local issues.

Q. What is the CBNWA?
A. The CBNWA is the Croydon Borough Neighbourhood Watch Association. The committee, whom are all current co-ordinators, meet once a month, and are always looking for new members with new ideas. They are funded by Croydon Police and Croydon Council, which allows them to hold a conference once a year, provide lamp post signs for all roads covered by neighbourhood watch, and stickers for your doors.

Q. How do I contact my SNT?
A. Go to the Safer Neighbourhood page for further details.

Q. How do I report a crime?
A. In an emergency always dial 999. (For instance if a crime is happening now) You can report a less urgent crime by telephone on 020 8667 1212, or in person at a police station. You can also report non urgent crimes via the internet on www.online.police.uk. i.e Theft, Criminal Damage/vandalism, theft from a motor vehicle, and hate crime. DO NOT report Road Traffic collisions or lost property on this site.
