  • Be vigilant - awareness of strangers appearing to be paying attention to their property - any doubts call police on 999, with full description.
  • Review home security - contact the local Crime Prevention office or your Safer Neighbourhood Team for advice and assistance.
  • Check external security for good lighting - ensure any fencing is in good repair - adequate locks on gates - trim back hedges and gates.
  • Make neighbours/friends aware of your personal circumstances.
  • Consider the purchase of a home security system (intruder alarm) installed by an approved installer or a personal attack alarm.
  • If in a Neighbourhood Watch or Residents Association make contact with your local Co-ordinator or member.
  • If you do not live in sheltered accommodation then consider applying for a Croydon Council Careline or Help the Aged Senior Link Bogus Caller system.
